

Saint Jerome is shown in this painting with an early pair of spectacles called "Nose Spectacles." Look below his right hand. Few spectacles of this age have survived. Those that have are extreamly expensive. In fact, one is more likely to find a well done fake than the real thing. I have no samples to show but, I do have one pair from around 1580 that will give some idea of the look of this age spectacle.
