The hard bridge style of pince-nez glasses utilizes two spring loaded clips to hold the frames in place. The distance between the clips is called bridge width. The image below shows the common sizes available. Bridge width has little to do with face size. Some small individuals require a wider bridge because of the thickness of their nose bone. Also, a very large person may need a narrow bridge because of bone size.
If you now wear glasses with nose pads, measure the gap between the center of the nose pads. Also, your optician has a caliper like device used to measure bridge size.
Bridge size has nothing to do with lens shape or size. For example, rimless pince-nez frames can hold round, ovid, oval, and octogon shaped lenses. Click here for samples of "C" bridge pince-nez.
