Excellent set of railroad cinder goggles. Early railroad carriages did not have windows. Cinders along with dust would blow into the passenger compartment. Goggles like these were used by passengers to keep cinders and dust out of their eyes. The string that holds the goggles in place is designed to be changed. This pair dates to the mid 1850's.
