A historically important pair of spectacles by made by John McAllister, Philadelphia.
McAllister was the first American to make eyeglasses in quantities.
He began producing eyeglasses around 1805.
His son, grandson, and great-grandson followed him into the business.
His son and grandson were named William.
Both of these McAllister's signed the frames they made "William McAllister".
John McAllister did not use his first name.
These frames are in excellent condition.
The outside of the left hand temple is stamped "R M"
which is probably the initials of the first owner.
