Very rare double folding lorgnette made from tortoise shell. This item
dates to about 1850. It has a noticable damage area on the handle caused
by mites. This clearly shows in the photograph. Some dealers and collectors
slightly reshape the handle to do away with the mite damage. I prefer to
sell such fine antiques in their original condition. It is a fact that all
early authentic tortoise shell will have some damage caused by mites. Further
damage can be avoided by rubbing vaseline on the frames. Handle length when
fully extended is 9 1/2 inches.
