Excellent set of railroad cinder goggles with its original case. Early railroad carriages did not have windows. Cinders along with dust would blow into the passenger compartment. Goggles like these were used by passengers to keep cinders and dust out of their eyes. The string that holds the goggles in place needs to be changed. These goggles were designed so that the string that held them on could be changed when needed. This pair dates to the mid 1850's. The case is in excellent condition
