American made double folding temple spectacles tend to date 1805-1815. In 1805, Congress passed the Embargo Act restricting the import of goods made in Europe. The first American made eyeglasses date from this period. They differ from European spectacles in that they have no hallmarks and seldom have a makers name. This pair is in excellent condition. A great example of early American eyeglasses.
